What is "Eating Right for Your Blood Type"?
Have you tried to lose weight but failed to lose any significant amount, or lost weight just to put it back on? If so, you belong to the vast majority of dieters. Many times, the fault is not your own. You were simply given an incorrect assumption to begin with. If the diet plan you follow is based on faulty information, logic would dictate that you will not achieve the results you are looking for.
One dietary approach with more than 40 years of research and scientific backing has to do with first identifying your blood type. All human beings are 1 of 4 ABO blood types – A, B, AB and O. Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo believes that once you know your specific blood type, you can cater what you eat to most effectively reach and maintain a healthy body weight, and achieve overall health and wellness.
Where the Eating Right for Your Blood Type Idea Began
When D'Adamo was a child he looked up to his father. The senior D'Adamo was a naturopath that was intrigued by the fact that most traditional diet plans didn't work. He sought out a natural answer that could work for everyone, not just some. By the time the young D'Adamo was attending college, his father had spent a couple of decades tracing the links between nutrition, health, fitness and blood type.
At first skeptical, Peter D'Adamo came around to his father's way of thinking once he saw the supporting scientific research. He continued where his father left off, eventually publishing the bestselling book Eat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution To Staying Healthy, Living Longer and Achieving Your Ideal Weight in 1996.
He has since launched Dadamo.com, the official website of the blood type diet. On that website you can find helpful information regarding each blood type, the foods you should be eating, delicious recipes and other helpful resources. The Eat Right for Your Type books have been published in 65 languages, and have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
The idea of eating for your blood type has to do with the evolution of man. Blood type O is the oldest, and type AB the most recent in human history. Humans born with type AB will then logically, according to Dr. D'Adamo, be more inclined to eating foods very different from those with the mor eancient type O blood. The same is also true for types A and B. Millions have found this innovative approach to nutrition successful for weight loss and overall health when other diet plans have failed.
Lectins and the Blood Type Diet
Lectins are abundant and diverse proteins found in foods. They are very good at attaching themselves to compounds, internal body parts and molecules. They can be found lining your digestive tract. These lectins effectively allow natural organisms to latch onto other natural organisms. So when you eat foods that contain lectins which are incompatible to your blood type, bad things can happen.
If you have type A blood and you eat some lima beans, your natural digestive process begins. Those lima beans eventually make it to the stomach where they are digested through a process called acid hydrolysis. Unfortunately for you, the lectin proteins found in lima beans are resistant to acid hydrolysis. Those lectins do not get broken down. They stay intact, clinging to the lining in your stomach or your intestinal tract.
Here is where lectins incompatible with your blood type create a problem. They have a magnetic effect on every nearby cell, and greedily latch on to these cells. Your body incorrectly identifies healthy cells as foreign bodies, and targets them, along with the incompatible lectins, for removal and disposal.
This can cause a blockage of blood flow through your kidneys, irritable bowel syndrome, cirrhosis of the liver, or some other problematic health condition. These dangerous but natural superglues come from eating foods which are incompatible with your system.
When you adhere to eating right for your blood type, lectins are not a problem, since you are only consuming those proteins which your body knows how to dispose of properly.
This is one of the reasons that the blood type diet can lead to such quick and effective weight loss. Your particular blood type is catered to. When your blood type appeared in the time-line of human history, people ate a certain way. Type O are directly linked to the first human blood type, which appeared at a time when humans ate mostly meat. Blood type A made its appearance right as humans were moving to an agrarian, plant-based way of eating. Type ABs are the most recent blood type, and are the healthiest when they consume a balance of type A and type B-friendly foods.
That means your internal physiological processes are more inclined to function effectively when you eat certain foods, and avoid others. This keeps incompatible lectins from causing health problems, promotes fat burning weight loss, helps you maintain a healthy weight, and delivers plenty of other physical and mental health rewards.
