There are only 24 hours in a day, and when you're doing these other tasks, you're taking time away from doing the task you really should be doing.

All the while you're doing these other things (that don't really need doing) the thought of the thing you really SHOULD be doing (that you're putting off) is going to play on your mind. The prospect of doing it is going to get worse and worse. What started off as something unpleasant or boring, can quickly turn into something full of fear and dread. It's human nature; just the way the mind works.
The Solution is a Simple One…
Simply decide what you need to do, and get on with it! Put the most unpleasant tasks first and get them out of the way soonest. When they're done, they're done! You don't have to think about them anymore, and can get on with doing something more enjoyable.

Remember how I said at the beginning of this course it would show you how to drop the “'t” from “can't” and turn it into “can”? Well there is just one other piece to the puzzle. You see, making plans, setting goals, drawing road maps is one thing – putting them into action is another.
Like I said on the second day of this course, following your goals “someday” means you'll probably NEVER accomplish them. Putting stuff off is called “procrastination” and it can derail your plans and ruin your life. If you keep putting things off until the time is “right” chances are, you'll never even get started.
Because there's never a “right” time to do anything! You can always think of some excuse: The economy’s not right, or let's wait until things settle down after “Brexit” or after the US elections, or when I get back from holiday, or after I've finished helping Uncle Frank move house, or maybe in the New Year… The list of excuses is as long as you want to make it.
Ask Yourself What Are you Afraid of? Failure?
If you are, that's perfectly normal. Think about it this way, though: Sometimes the only way you can find out what works is by eliminating what DOESN'T work. That means multiple failures on your road to success. If your goals are unachievable, then starting with the end in mind (like I showed you yesterday) will point that out – before you've even attempted them.
If you've worked your way back from where you want to go to where you are, you know what needs to be done! Meaning (you guessed it) there's nothing to it but to do it. Start today, and start looking forward to a brighter future with a transformed mindset.
Being Prepared for Any Task Is Easier Than You Think
Did you know you can force competence, confidence and productivity to obey your every command? It's true. There are certain processes you can implement that harness the power of the human mind to compete at a high level of competence, even if you are attempting a task or job for the first time.
Talking Yourself into Being Good at Something
You hear athletes talk about psyching themselves up before a big game. This usually involves self-talk. Amateur and professional athletes that perform at the highest levels of their respective sports commonly talk to themselves silently in advance of a major competition. You can experience the same high-level performance when your self-talk is performed in a particular way.
The Harvard Business Review reported on an experiment into whether or not preparatory self-talk improves a person's ability to accomplish a task successfully. On average, when an individual spent 5 minutes telling themselves that they could complete a task competently, their success rate was higher than individuals who did not have this chat with themselves.
One profound takeaway illustrated exactly how you should be talking to yourself to raise your performance level. As the Harvard Business Review reported ...
"People who referred to themselves as “you” or by their
own names while silently talking to themselves in preparation
for a 5-minute speech were subsequently calmer and more confident and performed better on the talk than people who
had referred to themselves as “I” or “me”."
Those people that told themselves "You can do it" as opposed to "I can do it" were 12.5% more capable and successful. When preparing for any task, this is powerful information that can raise your levels of competency and ability.
Self-Talk + Preparation = Unbeatable Confidence
When you have an event, activity or task scheduled sometime in the future, you have time to prepare yourself properly. Don't waste this opportunity. Preparation promotes confidence, and confident people would never think about walking into a situation "blind". Their confidence comes from the fact that they prepare for the task well in advance, and are absolutely certain in their ability to tackle it and complete it with a high level of competence.
Adding smart self-talk to intelligent preparation promotes an even higher level of ability. Fear, anxiety and stress are virtually nonexistent when you give yourself a pep talk that boosts your confidence, and you know that you are properly prepared. Preparation means planning, and planning takes time.
So, begin looking at the tasks and activities you have to complete and undertake on a regular basis. Prepare yourself in advance by thinking about the things you need to perform these activities productively, efficiently and competently. Then just before you take action, tell yourself that "You can do it", and your chances for success skyrocket.
How Procrastination Feeds Your Fear of Success
Procrastination is the enemy of all hopes and dreams. It’s based on fear and usually unfounded. Taking action is the enemy of procrastination. When you’re moving toward your goals it’s difficult for procrastination to take hold and keep you back.
It’s natural to procrastinate when you’re afraid. You may be afraid you’ll fail or perform less than expected, afraid because you don’t have the knowledge to perform, being uncomfortable or afraid to begin the success process.
There’s no doubt that fear of success causes you to procrastinate because you don’t feel you’re good enough and you’ve already put yourself in the failure category. But when you identify those fears and know them for what they are, you can overcome them with knowledge and common sense.
One you see those fears for what they are, you can eradicate them with information. You can also begin to take actions that will boost your self-confidence and help you meet goal after goal after goal.
Lack of motivation for the task at hand can contribute to procrastination. What you have to do may take much of your time. You may have to give up some of the things you enjoy - such as free Saturdays to play golf or shop.
You’re not alone if you suffer from lack of motivation. Everyone feels it from time to time. But if the lack of motivation is keeping you from the success you always envisioned and you procrastinate rather than beginning a task, it’s time to address what you really want to do and find out why you have no motivation for it.
Also, check your attitude about doing what it takes to be successful. If you’re not giving yourself positive vibes, you’re likely going to procrastinate because you’re just not into what it’s going to take.
Reevaluate your goals for success and the steps needed to get there. Maybe you need to tweak the goals or take a completely new path. If you feel you don’t have enough information or feel you don’t have the skills to succeed, you may procrastinate because you don’t want to fail.
Knowledge will get you over that hurdle. Some training in the skills you want to develop will add so much to your self-confidence level and alleviate the need to procrastinate. Fight fire with fire by learning how to perform tasks well and you won’t be tempted to delay actions.
You get a payoff for the procrastination because it acts as protection against failure. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect to be successful. Although procrastination may prevent you from actual failure, not trying at all will leave you unfulfilled.
You’ll never know if you were good enough to learn something or complete a task because you never tried. That procrastination can haunt you forever and lead you to believe you’re not worthy of success.
